Pastor Willie L. Hinton, Sr
Pastor Hinton was born in Phoenix, Illinois, the tenth of twelve children. He and his wife, Doris, have been married since 1978 and are the proud parents of Aaron and Willie Jr. They also have one granddaughter, Aaryn Leigh (Lele). He became a Christian at age 15. He graduated from Richton High School in Richton, Mississippi in 1974, and served six years in the United States Army.
Pastor Hinton was licensed and ordained by Community Missionary Baptist Church in Pacific Grove, California in 1977. He received an Associate's Degree in Divinity from New Orleans Seminary in 1988, and a Bachelor's Degree in Theology from International Seminary in Plymouth, Florida in 1992. On May 16th 2014, he received a Master of Arts in Christian Studies from Luther Rice University in Atlanta, Georgia. On May 18th, 2018, Pastor Hinton received the Master of Divinity Degree from Luther Rice. Additionally, he recently received his Doctorate of Ministry degree from Luther Rice on May 16, 2025. His doctoral project was titled "Creating and Implementing a Personal Evangelism Training Plan at West Mastin Lake Baptist Church of Huntsville, Alabama," which was published and placed in the Luther Rice Seminary for students to use as a reference for their projects. Pastor Hinton retired from Alabama A&M University after serving over 20 years in the Residential Life Department. He also served for 10 years on the Huntsville Police Citizen Advisory Board and is presently serving as Chaplain for the Huntsville Police Department.
Pastor Hinton became pastor of West Mastin Lake Baptist Church in 1990 and was previously pastor of St. James Baptist Church in Gulfport, Mississippi in 1985. Pastor Hinton's prayer for West Mastin Lake is that Christ may dwell in their hearts through faith, and that they are rooted and grounded in His love (Ephesians 3: 17).
