First Lady Doris Hinton
Doris Hinton is a native of Richton, Mississippi. She is the ninth sibling of twelve children. She professed Christ and was baptized at age nine by Rev. B. J. Hines at St. Paul Baptist Church in Richton, Mississippi. Later, Rev. W.H. Hines became the pastor and she regarded him as her great spiritual father and leader in the gospel of Christ. She attributes much of her spiritual knowledge and faith in Christ to his leadership. She knew at a very young age that God had a special calling on her life.
During high school and college, she held offices in Sunday School and the choir and served as the announcing secretary. She attended Bible Study and prayer meeting on a regular basis and also coordinated various church programs.
After high school graduating from Richton High School, she attended the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. In 2000, she received her Master of Science in Management from Florida Institute of Technology. Also in 2014, she received her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She has worked in several hospitals, nursing facilities, and in numerous specialty areas in nursing throughout her nursing career (medical-surgical, family practice, home health, public health, pediatrics, psychiatric, cardiac, nurse supervisor, nurse manager, and nurse educator). She was given the task of "COVID Prevention Leader" on night tour duty during the COVID pandemic while employed a the VA Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
Doris Hinton is the wife of Dr. Willie L. Hinton, Sr., the very fine Pastor of West Mastin Lake Baptist Church of Huntsville, Alabama. They have been married since 1978. She and her husband have two sons: Aaron Jermaine of Memphis, Tennessee, and Willie, Jr., of Huntsville, Alabama. They also haveone granddaughter, Aaryn Leigh (Lele) of Memphis, Tennessee. Doris states, "As a pastor's wife, the journey has been both adventurous and trying; as a mother it has been joyous, creative, and very unpredictable; and as a nurse, both frustrating and rewarding. But through it all, I wouldn't take nothing for my journey now."
Doris Hinton has been a member of West Mastin Lake Baptist Church since 1990 where she has worked in various capacities serving God. She states, "The joy of the Lord is my strength." She enjoys walking, singing, and listening to gospel music. She also enjoys traveling in her spare time. She is currently employed with the J.F. Drake State Technical and Community College as Clinical Instructor. She is a member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Her favorite scripture is, "I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me." (Phil. 4:13 KJV)
