Our History
West Mastin Lake Baptist Church started out as Clinton Avenue Baptist Mission, under the sponsorship of Highlands Baptist Church in 1977. It was constituted into a church on March 6, 1983 and accepted in the Madison Baptist Association at its annual meeting in 1983.
Bro. Hosea McCauley and Rev. Eugene Nail, acting on faith, started Clinton Avenue Baptist Church in an effort to reach the people on Clinton Avenue for Christ. He approached the Madison Baptist Association and was given permission to utilize the association’s building at 2220 Clinton Avenue.
In 1986 Clinton Avenue was designated a new Church under the Association and was placed under the cluster Churches which included First Baptist, Highlands, and others with First Baptist being the major contributors.
Dr. Max Croft was named liaison between Clinton Avenue Baptist and the Association and he was instrumental in helping the church locate where it is today.
